The Druze Kitchen

Discover the intriguing Druze community, a religious minority that originates from a divergence from Islam around a millennium ago. Initially persecuted as infidels in the middle east, the Druze sought refuge in remote mountainous areas throughout the Levant. Presently, approximately 150,000 Druze reside in Israel, with larger populations in the neighboring Lebanon and Syria. Noteworthy is their strong allegiance to Israel, actively serving in the country’s military, as well as in all other aspects of civilian life.

Beyond their unique history, the Druze are renowned for their warm hospitality and culinary expertise, drawing inspiration from local and seasonal ingredients. Enjoy starters featuring special ultra-thin pita bread, fresh salads, Mujadra (rice with lentils), Kubbeh (bulgur patties stuffed with meat), stuffed cabbage and grape leaves, and more. For main courses, savor dishes like Makluba (a hearty pot of rice, vegetables, and meat), succulent barbecued lamb, or exceptionally fresh kebabs. Save room for delectable desserts, including Baqlawa, Fatayer (stuffed pastries), and kenafeh, best enjoyed with black coffee or herbal tea.

While numerous Druze restaurants offer a taste of their rich culinary tradition, some Druze families provide an authentic dining experience in the comfort of their own homes. Either way, we recommend you immerse yourself in the warmth of Druze culture through shared meals and genuine hospitality.
